Harambee recognised for its work in job creation

15th Mar 2019

IAOP® (International Association of Outsourcing Professionals) together with the Rockefeller Foundation, have announced Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator as the winner of its 2019 Global Impact Sourcing Award (GISA).

The award recognises organisations that have influenced job creation in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, specifically in sourcing employees from under-served and local communities. Winners were chosen based on their results and commitment to inclusive hiring practices.

“Impact sourcing is no longer about finding a cause to support; it’s a smart way of doing business,” said Debi Hamill, IAOP CEO. “Today, more than ever, it’s important to recognise responsible businesses. We salute these organisations for their continued efforts and positive influences they continue to make in our industry and in our global communities.”

Harambee is acknowledged for its partnerships with government and industry in South Africa to drive job creation for youth. “We are proud to share this recognition with our industry body – Business Process Enabling South Africa (BPeSA) – and with our government partners at the Department of Trade and Industry (Dti). With their strong commitment to inclusive hiring, we are changing how this high-growth sector can create jobs for South African youth,” said Evan Jones, Harambee Chief Information Officer.

South Africa was named Global Destination of the Year in 2018 by the Global Sourcing Association. The BPO industry has witnessed 20% year-on-year growth annually for the past four years, which is twice the global growth rate of the industry, and three times faster than countries like India and the Philippines.
